Andy has been playing guitar for 20 years and playing/gigging as a full time musician since completing his Diploma of Music at the CPIT Jazz School in 2001. He returned to study and complete his BMus (1st Class Honours) at Canterbury University in 2010.
In addition to teaching privately and within local schools he has been on staff at the CPIT Jazz School. Teaching positions have included: Contemporary Guitar Years 1-3, Jazz Guitar Years 1-3, Ear Training, Specialist Ensembles (Blues) and Performance Ensembles (Jazz and Contemporary).
He has been a regular fixture on the local and national music scene playing in various ensembles and bands. Most recently his attention has been focused on Headrush (Corporate Top 40 Covers) and Oval Office (Original Soul/Funk/RnB). In addition to this he is employed regularly as a sideman with various performers such as: Midge Marsden, Suzanne Prentice, The Christchurch Symphony Orchestra, Tim Beveridge, James Tait-Jamieson, Naomi Ferguson, Eyreton Hall and Annie Crummer.
I keep my lessons relaxed and fun yet challenging at the same time in order to encourage musical growth from the students.
I enjoy watching students grow from beginners to competent musicians finding their place in the musical world.
I believe in setting goals with each student and tailoring lessons to suit individual requirements.
