I completed my Bachelor of Music with First Class Honours in 2016 with a focus on Classical Cello Performance at the New Zealand School of Music. During my time at the NZSM I found a passion for playing that I hope to share with a future generation of musicians. I have been teaching for five years, working with a wide range of students of varying ages(5-60), as well as different musical backgrounds. I also have experience working with students with special learning needs.
I use a traditional method for teaching, beginning with becoming comfortable with the instrument then introducing the reading of music. Also teaching pupils how to practice, with different techniques and approaches depending on the student, as well as showing parents how to be involved in the child’s practice to increase enjoyment and output of excellence in playing. Taking the player through Royal Schools Examinations if they so choose. I have a close knowledge of the NCEA Exam System for High school Students.
A typical lesson would begin with warm ups, working through any technical aspects of playing that are being addressed, followed by pieces. If a student is also taking theory lessons we would follow this by book work.
