Bio
My name is Julie Cheeseman and I teach from my studio at the beginning of Aniseed Valley near Nelson, New Zealand. I love teaching both piano and singing.
I have been immersed in music all my life and have taught in the UK, South Africa and New Zealand both in a one-to-one situation and as a classroom teacher. My experience includes being Head of Department for Music in several schools, and for Performing Arts at Nelson College for Girls.
I play the piano and have been an accompanist for choirs and musical theatre for over 30 years.
I have been Musical Director in a professional capacity for many local shows.
Teaching Info
As a teacher of music I have had to learn how to use my voice effectively and without strain and I pass this ability on to my pupils.
Over my years of working with young people in choirs and classrooms and musical productions, I have helped hundreds to sing with ease, freeing their natural voices.
I specialise in Musical Theatre. I do not teach the finer points of opera – only the beginnings of freeing your voice which applies to all singing styles.
My pupils range from young beginners to accomplished older performers.
I teach piano playing to all ages and stages and some of my pupils take examinations. I incorporate playing by ear into my teaching.
