Oscar Marriott-Johnstone is a well established bass player in the Christchurch music scene. He has performed in bars & bands for the past 7 years and began teaching in January 2014.
His early years at Rudolf Steiner opened him up to a wide range of genres including funk, rock, blues, jazz and more. He has been a part of Rockquest, NCEA Levels 1-3, and has played in many stage productions. Starting guitar and bass at age 10 he has a clear understanding of what a child wants to learn
Oscar now plays regularly in ‘Good Company’, a covers band. Regularly performing at The Bog and also playing weddings and functions.
I offer one-on-one or group tuition for the guitar and bass. My lessons focus on the practical aspect to both instruments and I build your ability & knowledge of the instrument one step at a time.
The first lesson is free and in this I go over the goals and aspirations of the student. From this I design lessons and steps to help the student reach their potential.
I offer my services from my office in Sydenham or can travel to your home or school for a small cost.
“Oscar has been teaching me for 2 terms now and I have learned heaps from his lessons with him. At first when I took up lessons I had never had anything to do with playing music at all and by the end of the first week I had learned a song and 3 weeks later I played in a band with some of my school mates. Thanks to Oscar I wouldn’t have done any of this without his awesome tutoring. This term Oscar is taking up more students at our school as they have seen how fast I have progressed and how well he has taught me, I wish them all the best and hope more and more people get to hear what an awesome tutor Oscar is.”
