Bio
Florence Lai is an accomplished classical pianist from Auckland, New Zealand, whose musical journey began at the age of four. She quickly advanced through the ABRSM and Trinity College of London piano exams, achieving high distinctions early on, including a score of 90% for both her ATCL and LTCL diplomas at ages 14 and 16, respectively. She was also recognized at an ABRSM High Achievers Award Concert after scoring a high distinction for Grade 3.
Florence has won numerous piano competitions, including the ACG Parnell College competition twice and represented her school in the Ronisch Secondary Schools Piano Competition. She frequently competed across the North Island, winning most of the competitions she entered. Her performance experience spans prestigious venues such as the Town Hall, Maidment Theater, and Epsom Girls Performing Centre, where she performed for large audiences and participated in professional photo shoots and video recordings.
Beyond her solo pursuits, Florence was actively involved in her school’s music department, playing the cello in the orchestra, participating in chamber music, and singing in the choir. She also took part in prominent music festivals, including the KBB Music Festival and The Big Sing.
After completing her secondary education, Florence pursued a Bachelor of Music degree at the University of Auckland, specializing in Classical Performance under the guidance of renowned pianist Stephen De Pledge.
In addition to her performance career, Florence has over a decade of experience teaching music to students of all ages and levels. Many of her students have gone on to excel in competitions, achieving high distinctions in ABRSM exams and winning various awards across Auckland.
