Bio
Hi I’m Annabelle; I started playing music at age 7 with recorder, and violin, piano, guitar, singing and trumpet.
Since then I have been heavily involved in music, playing in the Tauranga City Brass Band since 2016 and various other music groups on occasion such as the Bay of Plenty Symphonia, Youth Philharmonic Tauranga, Bay of Plenty Music School and Rhapsody Rotorua Honours Concert Band.
In 2016 I was selected for the National Secondary Schools Brass band, and again in 2017. I was also selected for the New Zealand Youth Symphonic Winds in 2017 and 2018. One of 12 selected throughout all of New Zealand for the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra National Mentoring program in 2018. Selected for the 2021 National Youth Brass Band.
My teaching days started in 2015, first at the Bay Play Music School and then Mount Maunganui Intermediate. Over the past 3 year I have mostly been teaching privately and classroom music in Primary schools. Currently I am employed as the Itinerant Brass Teacher in Tauranga, teaching at number of the local high schools and Intermediates.
Outside of teaching I manage and conduct the Tauranga City Brass Auxiliary band, new players are always welcome.
I have extensive experience teaching beginner Piano/Keyboard, Recorder, Music Theory and Woodwind instruments such a Saxophone, Flute and Clarinet. My main teaching instrument is Trumpet/Cornet and other brass instruments which I teach to an advanced level.

Teaching Info
Lessons are tailored to each student’s individual needs, goals, interest and learning style. I think it’s important to have fun and enjoy your instrument, while getting a strong grounding knowledge in the basics.
I offer flexible lessons and am able to help students prepare to sit a Trinity Exam however, this is entirely optional and may not suite everyone.
Learning music is life long journey and I welcome students of all ages, currently I have students aged 9 – 6o and beyond. Students with impairments/disabilities are welcome, I am a fluent signer in NZSL, have knowledge of braille music and experience working with a range of different physical and intellectual disabilities.
Whether you need on going lessons, or help with upcoming NCEA exams, exam recitals or auditions reach out and we can discuss the best way forward to reach your goals!
If you need a brass instrument for lessons, please let me know as I have instruments available for hire.
I hadn't picked up a trumpet in over 20 years, but with Annabelle's excellent instruction I was able to reach my goal of joining the local brass band within a matter of months of starting lessons. I would happily recommend Annabelle to anyone wanting to learn a brass instrument or further their skills. Her lessons are fun and motivational, and she is great at choosing material and creating lesson plans that suit your individual needs and goals.
