Bio
Kia Ora! I’m Francesca and have been playing music since I can remember. I started learning piano at 5, and picked up saxophone when I was 14. I’m a self taught flute doubler as well. I was raised on the shore, and have been teaching piano & saxophone privately to locals since I was 17. I started teaching with the NZ Modern School of Music, and have recently left to teach independently. I specialise in piano, saxophone and theory at all levels, and beginners flute. I have been through all the grades myself, and have studied at a higher level at university, so can take you through exams, NCEA prep and even university auditions. I’m also actively involved in the NZ jazz community, co-founding and directing a not-for-profit called “Wāhine in Jazz” that advocates for the development of female jazz musicians in Aotearoa. I love to teach people of all ages, and help foster a love for music in everyone I teach.
Teaching Info
I cater my lessons to my students needs and wants. If my students have a direction they’d like to follow in their musical development, I encourage them to bring this into our lessons. I then take this into account and help create this pathway through theory, aural, technique and performance, moulded to their capability and aspirations.
I love the versatility of the Trinity curriculum, and for that reason, I take students through Trinity exams (if exams are something we decide to do together).
I am primarily a jazz saxophonist, so I love to teach jazz improvisation to those who are interested.
