Bio
Kia ora! I’m Amy. I’m an award-winning singer-songwriter who loves to share the passion of music through teaching. As an artist, I’ve written and produced songs that have charted in New Zealand and received international radio airplays. One of my songs won the first prize in Out From The Mist, an international arts competition for mental health awareness.
I don’t have a formal degree in music. I was trained in Software Engineering and worked as a Software Engineer for a few years. I’ve been taught music privately from a young age. I played the clarinet in an orchestra for 8 years from the age of 8, where I learned to read music. Then I learned a range of Chinese folk instruments out of personal interest. I got an acoustic guitar when I was 14 but gave up soon, mostly because the guitar was poorly built and too painful to play. I picked up an electric guitar a few years later. I soon found a teacher who I resonated with and took private lessons with him for 12 years. I also took private lessons with a vocal coach who inspired me to start songwriting. I then got selected into the APRA mentorship programme and received further mentorship on songwriting.
I’m passionate about helping people make progress quickly! I’ve taught people from 7 year old to adult professionals trying music for the first time, as well as musicians playing in bands wanting to start their own songwriting journeys. I also run songwriting workshops for the commuity. I love a diverse range of musical styles, including country, pop, rock, blues, punk, soul, jazz, R&B, and latin. My lessons are tailored to my students’ interests. I encourage my students to bring in songs they’d like to learn. I love to help my students find their own writing and singing voice!

Teaching Info
Pricing:
- $40 for half-hour lessons – online or at my home in Pakuranga
- $70 for 1 hour lesson – traveling to your home available
- $15 travel fees – East Auckland, Panmure, Mt Wellington
- $25 travel fees – Central Auckland
- 1 or 2 students allowed for the same price
- Lessons can combine guitar, singing, songwriting, and music production
Half-hour lessons are best for younger children and young teens. 1 hour lessons are best for mature students or students who wish to work on a combination of skills.

My lessons are fun and tailored to my students’ interests. I encourage my students to bring in songs they’d like to learn. If they wish, I will help them learn to sing while playing guitar and write their own songs too!
