Bio

Kia ora! I’m Amy, a singer-songwriter who loves to share the passion of music through teaching. I love to help people on their creative journeys and make progress quickly!

I believe everyone has the potential to play and create music. I’ve helped people from 7 year olds to adult professionals trying music for the first time, as well as musicians playing in bands wanting to start their songwriting journeys. I also run songwriting workshops for cooperates focusing on fun and self-expression. I love a diverse range of musical styles, including country, pop, rock, blues, punk, soul, jazz, R&B, and latin. My lessons are tailored to my students’ interests. I encourage my students to bring in songs they’d like to learn. I love to help my students find their own writing and singing voice!

I believe music enriches our lives deeply. I encourage you to try a term of 10 lessons with me. You’ll be surprised by what you can achieve!

Here’s my background in music:

My main instrument is the electric guitar. I produce mysic with Logic Pro. I primarily perform on my own, and record music with other musicians.

I’m a solo artist passionate about making a difference in mental health through music. I make cheerful music about darker emotions that people can laugh and cry with. My music’s being played by radio stations in NZ, Australia, UK, US, Canada, and Singapore. One of my songs charted on the NZ RadioScope Alt Airplay Chart and made number 3 on the RDU station’s top 10 on 2 April 2024. My song, Tissue Paper, has been selected as a Finalist in the international arts competition, Out From The Mist, advocating for mental health and hope. Two of my songs have received Commended Entry certificates from the UK Songwriting Contest in 2024, nearly making it to the Semi Finals. For more information, please visit my website: ragingflowers.com, find me on Spotify, or Instagram.

I’ve been privately taught by a few highly-accomplished musicians. I’m taught to play the guitar by Tam Scholes, the talented guitarist of Carnivorous Plant Society. Tam Scholes is well-versed in Jazz, Blues, Country, Latin, Fingerstyle, and a little Rock and Roll. He introduced me to Jazz theory, improvisation and world music.

For singing, I’m taught by American singer-songwriter Jennifer K Austin, who’s my vocal coach. From her, I learned the power of encouragement and positivity.

For songwriting, I’ve been fortunate to be selected into the 2024 APRA Aotearoa Mentorship Programme. I’m mentored by the Silver Scroll award-winning songwriter, Steph Brown.

As a kid, I was classically trained in the clarinet. I played in school orchestras for 7 years. I also learned a range of Chinese folk-instruments.

I first learned music production through an elective course at the University of Auckland, taught by Jason Hole – Black Diamond Productions. Then I further developed my skills through online courses. I produce my music at my home studio as well as in professional recording studios in Auckland.
