Bio
Kiaora!
I have been teaching guitar and bass for the last sixteen years, with the last 12 years in Nashville, Tennessee, USA. I have just returned to Wellington (early 2024), where I had a successful guitar teaching business from 2008-2012 (Your Style Guitar).
I started playing music when I was 8 years old and have never stopped! I’ve been in bands that whole time, with stints teaching English and I’ve added music production and recording my own original music to my skill-set. I come from a musical family, my Dad has been teaching music for over 50 years and my sister is a music therapist and gigging musician.
I currently play guitar for Rhombus, and have played in The Woolshed Sessions, Rhian Sheehan, Jess Chambers band, Zuvuya, Safari and many others over the years.
I have a studio space on Abel Smith Street, currently available Wednesdays only.
I also now offer mobile lessons in the Wellington City area! Contact me to check to see if your area qualifies!
Teaching Info
The way I love to teach is through using songs that are familiar to the student. We learn technique, rhythm and gain strength through playing our favorite songs. We make a list of favorite genres and songs, and then pick the songs appropriate for your level. I will also add some songs and exercises that have been helpful over the years.
Lets have fun with music!
Peter has been teaching our son for 3 years. We could not have asked for a better, more engaged, patient and enthusiastic teacher for him. Peter is not only an extremely skilled and professional musician, he has a wonderfully gentle manner which allows his students to grow and develop in their musicality as well as their confidence. Peter has been able to connect with our son in a remarkable way, creating a safe space for learning and progression. In our experience, Peter has been able to find what most interests our son and has worked to build his confidence at the same time as encouraging him to push his boundaries and strive to improve his musical skills. Peter will always go the extra mile to create interesting projects and tasks to improve our son’s guitar skills. He has come on leaps and bounds under Peter’s warm guidance.
