Bio

Originally from the UK, Alison is a graduate of the Royal College of Music, London. She has lived in Auckland for over thirty years. As a busy professional freelance oboist she enjoys playing in a wide range of ensembles.

Alison is passionate about teaching and has a large studio of over thirty oboists. She has also had great success coaching chamber groups for the National Chamber Music Contest. As well as teaching privately she teaches at six of the top schools in Auckland. Alison has students of all ages, from beginners to diploma level, who excel in examinations and competitions. She is co-founded the New Zealand Double Reed Society in 2010 and has held many positions on the committee. She is currently Treasurer.

I am passionate about the oboe, music, teaching and people. I find teaching endlessly rewarding, challenging, inspiring and exciting. Amongst other things I aim to:

Excite my students about music

Develop personal responsibility for learning

Create an all round musician

Use goal setting to enable individuals to work on what matters to them

Give exposure to many different genres

Make lessons fun and productive

Achieve high standards

Encourage my students to become independent learners

I hold two studio concerts each year at which all my students perform.
