Trombone Lessons
Bio
Ben is a trombonist and composer based in Ōtautahi Christchurch.
Having started playing from a young age, Ben has gained experience across a wide variety of styles from years of playing in orchestral, chamber music, jazz, musical theatre, and contemporary settings.
Ben enjoyed success during his high school years through various secondary school music programs including as Principal Trombonist for the New Zealand Secondary Schools Symphony Orchestra (NZSSSO), and winning Best Overall Musician at ARA jazz quest and Southern Jam.
More recently he has performed across New Zealand including shows with Scribe and P Money and has played in the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra. He also has numerous musical theatre pit band credits through the University of Canterbury and performs across Christchurch nightlife and festivals.
Ben’s career so far has given him a rich musical tool set across a variety of styles, which he hopes to impart on his students.
Teaching Info
Everyone has their own way of learning, and we will work together to find the best approach for you! In a lesson we might look at tone, lip flexibility, scales, repertoire, ear training and theory.
My primary goal is for students to enjoy playing the instrument. My job is to make sure you’re always able to discover new things about the instrument and your musicianship. The job is never finished but that’s the exciting part!
Between new repertoire, scales, different exercises and musical concepts, I’ll ensure you’re able to progress on the instrument from week to week, whether the goal is music exams, NCEA performances, ensemble playing, or just for fun!
