Cameron is a young voice coach with significant experience in working with both male and female voices. A graduand of the CPIT Music Arts programme, he has been studying singing for nearly 15 years, and teaching for 5 years.
Cameron began as a classical choral singer, being a member of the acclaimed Christchurch Boys’ Choir, under Andrew Withington. Through high school he was taught by Sarah Lean-Massey, Lauren (L.A.) Mitchell, and Annabel Harrold, and later Rachel Bayliss. His repertoire ranges from folk and country, to rock/pop, and jazz. At CPIT, under the tutelage of Jennine Bailey – one of New Zealand’s finest jazz vocalists – he has expanded his knowledge of jazz styling and improvisation.
Cameron also has 5 years’ experience as a Musical Director through the University of Canterbury Musical Theatre Society (MUSOC). He has been the MD for 12 shows of various sizes and genres, including RENT, The Threepenny Opera, Chicago, and Cabaret. His knowledge of International Phonetic Alphabet, accents, and dialects lead to him functioning as an accent coach for many of these shows also. From this, he was invited to attend a training programme for young MDs, organised and taught by internationally renowned Musical Director and conductor Luke di Somma. He is presently the vocal coach for the Villa Maria & St. Thomas’s production of Grease, and is the director of Villa Maria’s highly acclaimed choral programme.
Cameron is confident in teaching jazz, pop/rock, and musical theatre vocals, as well as music theory, and basic piano for contemporary singers. He is well-equipped to advise and assist with entry and auditions into tertiary institutions such as CPIT Jazz School and NASDA, for performances, or just to have a sing!
Cameron is equipped to teach all voice types, a range of contemporary styles, and has significant knowledge of both good vocal technique and how to get the best sound from the voice you already have.
