Bio

Since beginning piano lessons at five-years-old, I have endeavoured to be continuously learning about music and the arts. This has included participation in various choral, ensemble, and theatrical organisations as well as various educational pursuits. My passion for music and the arts has led me to pursue a career as a teacher, conductor and performer.

I have passed several examinations through Trinity College London, including Grade 8 Piano, Grade 7 Singing, and Grade 6 Theory. I am currently working towards my Grade 8 singing exam at the end of November, 2016.

6 years of study at the University of Canterbury gained me a Double Degree in Music and Arts (majoring in theatre and film studies) and a recently completed Honours degree in Music.

During my time at the University of Canterbury I was fortunate to become heavily involved in the student-run arts scene, including acting as Musical Director for the newly-formed UC Glee Club, and as a musician, Musical Director, and Conductor for the several productions by the Musical Theatre Society, most recently conducting their 2016 production of Hair.

With experience teaching from 2 years to 50, I enjoy teaching a range of students with a range of musical interests.

Teaching Info

Lessons are about the students and their love of music! I will tailor each lesson around a students learning requirements and preferred repertoire, while also encouraging a broader understanding of music.

I believe in an integrated theoretical and practical approach to learning. As a result lessons will include the technical, harmonic and theoretical knowledge required for a greater understanding of various musical genres. I will also encourage learning both classical and contemporary repertoire, although am understanding of a student’s preference towards one of the other.
