Bio
I have dedicated my life to performing, recording and composing for the violin, also improvising. While releasing many CDs (on Kiwi Pacific Records, Kauri Music Ltd, Rongotai Records) and publishing scores (Wai-te ata Music and SOUNZ), in both the UK and NZ, I have often been a teacher as well, in schools and community colleges and privately.
Teaching Info
Teaching is based on the Rolland method which emphasizes enjoyment and the natural physical movements that suit violin playing. Each student is different and each person has a different taste in music, so, as well as basic technique, which is essential, everyone has their own taste and pieces they want to play. The violin is the best instrument because, “it can make you laugh and it can make you cry”, it can sing sweetly and dance with glee and vigour.
I am happy to teach beginners, intermediate level and more advanced. I have written 2 collections of Violin Duos which can be used as teaching materials, but it’s up to the student who might prefer to play film music themes, or pop tunes, or classical – whatever you want!
I teach at my studio in Newtown, or can travel to your place if its not too far away, there’ll be an extra $10 charge for that.
Look forward to meeting you!
