Bio
I have a background as an orchestral musician, having worked with NZSO Schola Musica for three years and seven years with APO orchestra.
After a brief period as a school music teacher in Whangarei, I took up a position as Tutor in Residence at the Taupo School of Music. This included running music appreciation classes in schools and community, conducting and teaching at the school of music.
Since returning to Auckland in 2009 I have continued to teach privately on the north shore and relish a weekly session conducting ‘Stringalongs’ associated with Northshore Youth Music.
I love the varied nature of teaching and performing. I enjoy seeing young (and not so young people) develop their skills and confidence through learning a musical instrument.
Teaching Info
I work with a new student where they are at. We discuss and agree on goals for the lessons.
Generally, I use a scale, study, Piece(s) format for the lessons, though this can be flexible as needed.
I expect students to practice regularly and do an appropriate amount of practice throughout each week.
I put students forward for ABRSM and Trinity College exams and other performance opportunities, but these are optional and appropriate to the disposition of the individual student.
