I have over ten years of experience teaching Guitar and Bass Guitar both to children and adults of all abilities. I have taught all styles but my specialties are jazz, blues, soul, improvisation and song-writing.

My formal qualifications include a Bachelors degree in jazz performance from Massey University in Auckland as part of the New Zealand School of Music. I have also studied privately for 2 years with one of the jazz bass greats, Prof. Richard Davis while I was living in the United States.

I perform regularly with various groups ranging in style from jazz to folk, rock to classical all around New Zealand. I produce original music under the name Henika. I also regularly play with cover bands such as 2′s A Crowd and The Soul Pit Orchestra.

Teaching Info

I customise my lesson plans to each individual’s personal interests while creating a strong foundation of good technique and fundamentals. I help my students set achievable goals early on and work towards them so they can measure their progress. With my younger students, I dedicate part of the lesson to learning technique, sight reading and theory and part to learning songs they enjoy. My lessons are laid back but structured. I allow students to learn at their own pace while patiently reinforcing good playing habits.

I also provide online tuition via “Skype” for those who find it more convenient. Many of my students prefer Skype sessions not only because there is no travelling involved but also because they can prepare for the class better and also can record the session for review later on.

I am prepared to offer ONE FREE 20 MINUTE TRIAL to see if Skype lessons are for you! Contact me for more details.
