Bio
With 25 years of playing the piano and 15 years of teaching experience, I am committed to providing a well rounded and authentic learning experience for all of my students.
My background was originally classical piano and I still love to play classical, however I studied performance jazz piano at Ara’s Jazz School before completing my honours at the University of Canterbury.
Since graduating, I have lived and worked in London both as a gigging musician and a private piano teacher before completing my classroom teacher training at Goldsmiths University of London. I then taught and lead the music department of a busy inner London school.
I have recently moved back to Christchurch and am excited to get back into teaching privately and use my new experiences to create great lessons.
I cater to all learning styles and have experience teaching students with additional needs.
Teaching Info
My lessons are very much catered towards your learning style and your previous experience. I am comfortable teaching a range of styles and adapting the lessons on the go.
I believe it is important to learn to read music, aural skills and music theory along the way so that you have the skills, knowledge and confidence to improve your skills at home in between your lessons.
Expect to complete a short survey and have a chat at your first lesson about what your goals are so that I can create resources suitable to your needs. Part of that is thinking about where you want to be at the end of your journey and when you want to get there so that I can plan lessons with our end goal in mind!
