Bio
I provide professional Guitar lessons with 17 years experience. I specialise in Classical Guitar but I can also cater for basic Rock and Blues styles. I can create a program to suit your learning needs and goals and most of all make it fun! I have taught kids from 7 years up to adults, in one-on-one and group scenarios. I’m a qualified Secondary School teacher with a Bachelor of Music in Classical Guitar Performance.
I come from a strong music background, having learnt the violin, piano and guitar. Growing up, I was involved in chamber music groups, orchestras, musicals and in the Rockquest. I can teach note reading, technical aspects for playing Classical Guitar, analysing music, performance practice, ensemble playing and theory. I can also prepare students for NCEA assessments or for auditioning for music performance programmes at Universities. I have experience in preparing students for Trinity College Exams with a 100% pass rate.
In 2004, I completed my Bachelor Music in Classical Guitar Performance at Massey University (now NZSM) in Wellington under guidance of Matthew Marshall and Gunter Herbig. I also had masterclasses with guitarists such as Anthony Field, David Lisner, John Couch, Dr. Jane Curry, Lily Afshar, Jason Vieaux and Cheryl Grice-Watterson. During my studies, I also toured the North Island with the Massey University Guitar Orchestra ‘Live Wires’. In 2004, I won the 1st Prize at the Christchurch Guitar Society Competition. I am an active member of the Chch Guitar Society and I am a member of the guitar trio Guitar Trilogy.
In 2005, I began to pursue my passion for music in direction of recording, audio and sound technologies and completing a Certificate in Audio Engineering & Music Production at MAINZ (Tai Poutini Polytechnic). I complimented this by completing a Diploma in Audio Engineering & Music Production with Distinction in 2012.
I have worked as a freelance Audio Engineer, secondary school teacher and guitar teacher in Christchurch. As an Audio Engineer I have worked for Tandem Studios and as Tech co-ordinator for community access radio station Plains FM in Christchurch. I’ve been the Audio Engineer and Tech co-ordinator for the Taranaki Classical Guitar Summer School since 2012 and recorded the Christchurch concert of the NZGQ in September 2012.
