Bio
In 2022, I completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Music in classical performance on the flute at the University of Auckland. Other qualifications include LTCL (classical flute recital), Bachelor of Music majoring in jazz and Bachelor of Arts with a Music History and Analysis major.
I have experience teaching the flute and piccolo from beginner to more advanced levels. I have taught both privately and as an itinerant music tutor in high schools in Auckland and Wellington.
I have a range of performance experiences with both the flute and piccolo including playing in orchestras and concert bands, and chamber music. I am currently playing with the Manukau Symphony Orchestra. I am also involved with solo and chamber music performances.
I also enjoy playing the saxophone and have experience teaching beginners on this instrument.
Teaching Info
Flute – I wish to share the joy of music and flute playing with students. I aim to provide lessons that meet the musical interests and learning styles of individual students. It is important that each student enjoys the lessons and through this experience achieves to the best of his or her ability. I help each student to develop a range of skills that enable growth as a musician and flautist. These skills include – tone and breathing; instrumental technique; musicality; aural development; understanding of the music and theory; and improvisation. I also help students develop their piccolo playing. I will prepare students for Trinity College, ABRSMĀ and NZMEB examinations if they are interested in doing so. An important aim of the lessons is to encourage students to be motivated, confident and excited about their flute playing.
Saxophone – I also aim to provide saxophone lessons that encourage students’ enjoyment of the instrument. I help each student develop good technical skills, musicianship and understanding of music theory.
