Ryan is currently based in Wellington, where he now teaches after completing a Master of Musical Arts degree in jazz composition after studying towards a Bachelor of Music in performance (guitar), and working towards the completion of a Graduate Diploma of Teaching (Secondary).
In 2012 he was awarded the Niland Prize for jazz composition which resulted in a performance of his compositions at a concert celebrating several Prizes/Scholarships awarded by the New Zealand School of Music. Over the last few years he has also had the privilege to play with the Wellington Jazz Orchestra, alongside American trumpeter Allen Vizzutti in 2010, and played with James Tait-Jamieson in his Sons of Sinatra show in 2011.
On top of teaching private students for guitar and tutoring students towards their NCEA exams, Ryan is currently a part of the teaching staff at the Young Musician’s Programme run through the New Zealand School of Music taking the jazz ensemble.
Although this advertisement is mainly for guitar lessons I am able to provide tuition for theory and composition as well, and being a qualified secondary school teacher, I have sound knowledge of the NCEA system, and am able to tutor students in preparation for any of the music standards.
I can teach to all levels, and am able to provide challenging and fun material that appeals to each individual, giving each student the opportunity to excel in whatever area of music they choose to.
